A small 1970s vintage side table with plenty of character.
Made in South Africa by Aquarius Enterprises Africa, the table has a simple, architectural construction with two open shelves for practical storage.
Of course, the real eye-catcher is the large hand-carved panel on the side.
Its pattern seems inspired by nature, but the shapes have been simplified to the point of becoming almost abstract. This gives the table a slightly sculptural quality and contrasts nicely with its otherwise straightforward design.
The warm wood, visible grain and solid construction give the table a robust and very natural feel.
A practical little piece of 1970s South African design, with just the right amount of fun.
