Two 16th Century Inspired Side Chairs, Arts And Crafts

0.00

Very rare pair of side chairs inspired by Dutch 16th century chairs.

It is not hard to see that these chairs resemble the “Arts and Crafts” movement, or some modernist designers of the 1950s-60s. After some research I found out that these chairs found their inspiration with Dutch 16th century chairs, and indeed you can find this type of chair in the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam and in various paintings by the Dutch painter Jan Steen (1626-1679). How to date them, I’m not 100% sure. Around 1900 or around the 1950s/1960s? Initially I thought I was dealing with ‘Arts and Craft’ chairs.

Anyway, the chairs are made of solid wood with a rush seat and have been completely checked by my restorer. The chairs are stable and the very small defects in the original seat have been stabilized.

Price is for the set.

H x W x D = 93-45 x 46 x 46 cm / 36.6-17.7 x 18.1 x 18.1 inch.
